Al Hoceima Region: Sadiki Launches Agricultural and Rural Development Projects as Part of the “Green Generation” Strategy

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, conducted a field visit today, Sunday, June 9th, to the Al Hoceima province in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. During this visit, he launched agricultural and rural development projects as part of the “Green Generation” strategy.

Accompanied by the governor of Al Hoceima, the president of the agricultural chamber of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, elected officials, and ministry officials, Mr. Sadiki oversaw the regional agricultural plan and launched several agricultural and rural development projects under the “Green Generation” strategy.

The minister was briefed on the progress of the regional agricultural plan of the “Green Generation” strategy for Al Hoceima. He also presided over the launch of the Al Hoceima investment program for 2024-2025, which includes several agricultural and rural development projects with an investment of 300 million dirhams.

As part of the program to mitigate the effects of reduced rainfall, the minister oversaw the distribution of 15 tanker trucks to 15 local communities. These communities include Snada, Abd El Ghaya Souahel, Zaouia Sidi Abdelkader, Chakran, Tafraout, Sidi Boutmim, Issaken, Beni Ammart, Beni Boufrah, Beni Jmil Maksouline, Ait Kamra, Beni Abdellah, Rouadi, Imrabten, and Azmouren, which are the most affected by the delay in rainfall.

This initiative cost 22.19 million dirhams and benefits 9,624 recipients. It aims to protect livestock, manage water resources, introduce high-value crops, and enhance agricultural lands.

The program includes hydro-agricultural development for small and medium-sized irrigated areas, the distribution of subsidized barley, and the distribution of tanker trucks to supply livestock.

In the Snada community, the minister reviewed the 2024-2025 solidarity agriculture program with an investment of 154 million dirhams. This program specifically targets small farmers in the mountainous areas of 12 local communities in Al Hoceima province.

In this context, the minister launched the planting of 630 hectares of cactus resistant to cochineal insects for the year 2024, with an investment of about 7 million dirhams. This program also includes the establishment of a demonstration platform to showcase new resistant varieties.

The program is expected to benefit 1,185 recipients from the communities of Snada, Beni Boufrah, Azmouren, Beni Jmil Maksouline, Beni Jmil Mstasa, and Rouadi.

As part of the project to support beekeeping cooperatives, the minister oversaw the distribution of beekeeping equipment to 30 cooperatives, benefiting 150 recipients from the communities of Sidi Bouzineb and Beni Ammart. This project aims to improve honey production and valorization, organize the production chain, and support marketing. It also aims to improve the income of beekeepers and reduce rural migration.
